So, basically, it fails to tell you one huge step when it comes to removing the starter from a Taurus SHO. See picture for clarification. There’s no way to get anything useful down there to get the bolt out.
It also helps a lot to remove the bracket holding the wiring harness in place. That step is optional I suppose, but highly recommended.
So, of course it has to be 0 degrees out, and my car has to be under 2 feet of snow the day my starter decides to completely die.
This majorly sucked because I wasn’t totally prepared for winter where it died, so I had to freeze for a few hours attempting to repair it in the parking lot. That ended up failing horribly.
So later the next night I end up having to acquire emergency transportation to Gwinn to finish the Explorer so I could tow the SHO home. I froze to almost death trying to get it done.
Next morning I towed the SHO home, and it’s now sitting in the garage thawing as much as possible. It was so frozen I had to carefully pry the drivers door open to get in this morning. None of the other doors, trunk, or windows open at all.
I’m pissed, hopefully it’ll thaw overnight so I can start removing the starter tomorrow. Then off to Advance Auto to order a new one.
